A True Friend: Davido’s Story of Triumph and Gratitude

HOW IT ALL STARTED

It had been a while since I felt that rush. The crowd chanting my name, the lights blinding me as I stood center stage, microphone in hand, heart pounding in rhythm with the beat. But now, there was silence. It was a silence that seeped into my mind, gnawing at the edges of my confidence. My last few releases hadn’t hit the way I wanted. The excitement wasn’t there, and my fans—who used to sing my songs word-for-word—seemed quieter.

Could this be the point where I give up?

My pulse raced as that thought crossed my mind. For a moment, I let the darkness of doubt creep in. My phone buzzed. A message from a friend.

"What’s up, Davido? I’m at the club. You should come through."

It was Techno, one of the few people who understood the struggle of the music grind. I hesitated for a moment but decided to go. Maybe I just needed a distraction, a break from my thoughts.

A True Friend Appears

The club was alive, but I wasn’t. I could barely hear the music over my own worries. Techno found me slouched in the corner, and without a word, he knew something was up.

“Man, what’s wrong?” he asked, leaning in closer.

I sighed. “It’s been tough, Tech. I haven’t had a hit in a while. The fans expect so much from me, and I’m not sure if I can deliver. What if...what if I’ve lost it?”

Techno laughed—a deep, genuine laugh that cut through my self-doubt. “Lost it? Nah, you’re just waiting for the right moment. And I think I have something that might help.” He looked at me with that glint in his eyes.

“What are you talking about?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

“You remember that song I’ve been working on? ‘IF’? I think it’s yours. Let’s hit the studio tonight.”

Turning the Tide with ‘IF’

In the studio, the energy was different. Techno plugged in the beat, and as soon as I heard the melody, something clicked inside me. It was like the clouds parted, and I could see clearly again. We worked through the night, tweaking the song until it felt just right. When I laid down the vocals, everything came back—my passion, my confidence, my drive.

I remember sitting back in the studio chair after recording the last line, my heart racing. Techno looked over at me and grinned. “This is it, Davido. This is the one.”

HERE IS THE SONG

Doubts and Realizations

But even after we finished the track, I still had lingering doubts. *I’m a musician,* I thought to myself. *How will my fans feel about me performing a song I didn’t write?* For a moment, I wrestled with my pride. But then I realized something important: nature blesses us with those we meet along our journey. No one does it alone.

I started thinking about all the people I had helped in my career, those who had bounced back because I believed in them. I wasn’t just making music for myself—I was doing it for the fans, for the people who needed to hear the message, for those who found joy and unity in my songs.

"We rise by lifting others." The phrase came to me, and I knew it was true. Every step I took, every stage I climbed, wasn’t just because of me. It was because of the people who lifted me along the way.

Building a Legacy of Support

After "IF" became a hit, I knew I had to give back. I had to keep the energy going, not just for myself, but for the next generation of artists. I sat down one day and started brainstorming. *How can I help others rise, just like Techno helped me?*

That’s when I decided to start incorporating new artists into my projects. I knew what it felt like to struggle, to feel like you’re on the edge of giving up. And I also knew what it felt like to have someone pull you back from that edge, to give you that one chance that could change everything.

**"We rise by lifting others,"** I said to myself again. It wasn’t just a motto—it was a way of life. It was time to bring others into the spotlight.

A Conversation with the Media

During an interview with the media after the success of "IF," they asked me about my journey. I smiled, leaning forward in my chair, ready to share what I had learned.

“You know, people see the artist on stage, and they think, *Wow, that guy did it all himself,* but that’s not how it works,” I explained. “Behind every hit song, there’s a team. There’s the manager who makes the calls, the editor who makes the track sound clean, the video producer who brings the visuals to life. It’s not just me.”

The journalist nodded, clearly intrigued. “So, what do you think about musicians who don’t acknowledge their team?”

“I think they’re missing the point,” I said firmly. “No musician did it all on their own. If you don’t acknowledge the people who helped you, you’re not being real. We rise by lifting others, and that means giving credit where it’s due. Your manager, your producer, your whole team—they’re as much a part of your success as you are.”

I Paused for a moment, thinking back to my own journey. “Take Techno, for example. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have had ‘IF’. He didn’t have to help me, but he did, and because of that, I was able to give back. That’s how it should be.”

Helping the Next Generation

Over the years, I’ve helped a lot of people in different phases of their careers. Some of them were just starting out, others were at a crossroads, unsure of what to do next. But I always felt like it was my duty to help. It’s not just about making music—it’s about building a community, lifting each other up so that we can all succeed.

I’ve met so many artists who just needed that one break, that one opportunity. And whenever I can, I try to be the one to give it to them. It’s what drives me every day—knowing that my music isn’t just mine. It belongs to everyone who listens, everyone who feels something when they hear my voice.

The Song: "We Rise by Lifting Others"

In honor of my fans and the people who have supported me, I decided to create a new song. It was time to give back through the music itself. I called up Silver J and asked him to collaborate with me on a track dedicated to the fans. We spent hours crafting the perfect blend of Afrobeat rhythms and lyrics that reflected our journey.

Chorus (Davido):

"We rise by lifting others,

In the storm, we find our brothers.

Through the highs, through the lows,

We stand tall, and the love only grows."

Silver J’s Rap Verse:

"I’ll be the one who brings inspiration,

Fueling dreams across the nation.

From the streets to the stage, no hesitation,

With every beat, we spark motivation.

The journey’s long but we don’t walk alone,

Together we rise, together we’ve grown."*

The song became an anthem for unity, a reminder that none of us do it alone. Every fan, every artist, every friend—they’re all part of the journey.

Gratitude and Reflection

After the release of the song, I sat down one evening, reflecting on how far I’d come. It wasn’t just about the music anymore—it was about the lives I’d touched, the artists I’d helped, and the fans who had supported me through it all.

No man is a king for himself. We only become kings when the people around us lift us up. That’s the real meaning behind success. And as I thought about it, I realized that my journey was just beginning.

“Thank you,” I whispered to myself, thinking about everyone who had been part of this incredible journey. “We rise by lifting others.”*

This story not only emphasizes Davido’s musical journey but also teaches the values of teamwork, gratitude, and mentorship, making it educational, motivational, and inspiring for fans and aspiring artists alike.
